HOUSE PAINTING

Professional Parquet Polishing Services in Singapore

Parquet floors look great when they’re in good condition. Over time, though, they collect scratches, lose their shine, and start to show their age. Parquet polishing restores your floor’s surface, fixes common damage, and adds a protective coat that keeps wood looking good for years.

ATP Painting handles parquet polishing for HDB flats, condos, landed homes, and commercial spaces across Singapore. If your floor is dull, scratched, or worn, we can assess it and recommend the right treatment.

Trusted Parquet Polishing Contractor in Singapore

ATP Painting focuses on clear work scopes and careful site preparation. We look at wall condition, paint type, surface damage, and access needs first. That helps reduce surprises during the job. “Can or not?” gets answered before painting starts.

Our Office Painting Contractor Singapore service suits occupied offices and vacant units. We can discuss phased work, after-hours painting, or weekend timing. Good planning keeps your team moving while work happens. That is the Singapore way of staying “steady lah” under pressure.

Common Parquet Flooring Problems We Solve

Light surface scratches are the most common complaint. They usually come from furniture legs, pet claws, or heavy foot traffic. Sanding removes the top layer where scratches sit, and a fresh coat of varnish seals the repaired surface.

Old varnish breaks down over time. When that happens, the floor loses its colour and looks flat. Parquet polishing strips the worn finish and replaces it with a fresh coat that brings the colour back.

Some stains – ink, grease, or dark watermarks – go deeper than regular cleaning can reach. Sanding down to bare wood removes most stubborn stains before the floor is refinished.

Water causes parquet blocks to swell, warp, or darken. Minor water damage can often be sanded back and resealed. Severe warping may need block replacement before polishing can begin.

Blocks become loose when the adhesive underneath fails. Loose blocks need to be re-glued and allowed to set before any sanding or varnishing takes place.

Small gaps form as wood expands and contracts with humidity changes. Gap filling compounds can close these gaps before varnish is applied, giving the floor a cleaner, more even look.

Varnish peels when the original coat was applied poorly, or when moisture gets underneath it. Peeling varnish must be fully removed before a new coat will bond properly.

Our Parquet Polishing Services

Sanding removes the old finish, scratches, and surface stains down to bare wood. Once the floor is smooth and even, fresh varnish or polish is applied. This is the most complete treatment for worn or heavily scratched floors.

Varnishing seals the wood surface and gives it the finish you choose – gloss, satin, or matte. It protects the floor from moisture, scuffs, and daily wear.

If your floor is in reasonable condition with only light dulling, a recoat adds a fresh layer of varnish over the existing finish. This is faster and less disruptive than a full sand and polish.

We assess whether scratches and stains can be treated locally or whether the affected area needs sanding. Spot treatment works for isolated damage; widespread damage usually needs a full sand.

Gaps are filled with a wood filler that matches the floor colour. This step is done before varnishing to keep the finished surface smooth.

Cracked, warped, or broken blocks can be replaced individually. We source replacement blocks that match the existing floor as closely as possible before the area is sanded and refinished.

Timber staircases wear faster than floors because of concentrated foot traffic on each step edge. We sand and revarnish timber staircases using the same process as parquet floors.

Types of Parquet Polishing Finishes

01

Gloss Finish

A gloss finish reflects light strongly and gives the floor a clean, polished look. It shows dust and footprints more than other finishes, so it suits spaces that are cleaned regularly.

02

Satin Finish

Satin sits between gloss and matte. It has a subtle sheen that looks natural and is forgiving with everyday marks. It's a practical choice for living rooms and bedrooms.

03

Matte Finish

A matte finish has almost no sheen. It hides surface marks well and suits floors where a natural, understated look is preferred.

04

Water-Based Varnish

Water-based varnish dries quickly - often within a few hours - and has a low odour. It dries clear, which keeps the wood's natural colour. It's a common choice when quick drying time matters.

05

Oil-Based Varnish

Oil-based varnish takes longer to dry but tends to be harder and more durable once cured. It adds a slight amber tone to the wood. It works well for high-traffic areas where a tough surface coat is the priority.

06

Wood Staining and Colour Change

If you want to change the floor's colour - darker, lighter, or a different tone - staining is done after sanding and before varnishing. The stain soaks into the bare wood and changes the overall appearance of the floor.

Benefits of Professional Parquet Polishing

Restores Floor Shine

A fresh varnish coat brings back the lustre that builds up over years of cleaning, foot traffic, and UV exposure.

Protects Against Daily Wear

Varnish acts as a barrier between the wood and everyday contact. Without it, the wood surface wears away directly.

Refreshes Old Parquet Floors

Floors that look old and tired often just need a proper sand and polish. In many cases, the result is dramatic without replacing the floor.

Makes Floor Cleaning Easier

A sealed surface resists dust and liquid better than bare or worn wood. A smooth, sealed floor is much easier to mop and maintain.

Helps Floors Last Longer

Regular polishing prevents the wood from drying out, cracking, and wearing thin. A well-maintained parquet floor can last decades.

Our Parquet Polishing Process

01

We start by checking the floor’s condition – the finish, the wood, any loose blocks, stains, gaps, or damage. This tells us which treatment is right and whether any repairs are needed first.

02

Furniture is moved away from the work area. Adjacent surfaces like skirting boards and walls are protected before sanding starts.

03

We use floor sanders to strip the old varnish and level the surface. Corners and edges are done with smaller hand tools. Sanding produces fine dust, which is managed with dust extraction equipment.

04

After sanding, gaps are filled and any loose or damaged blocks are repaired. The floor is left to dry fully before varnishing.

05

Varnish is applied in coats, with light sanding between coats for a smooth result. The number of coats depends on the finish type and the floor’s condition.

06

Once the final coat is dry, we inspect the finished surface and walk through the job with you before we leave.

Quality Workmanship
and Warranty

We take care at every stage because poor preparation leads to early peeling, uneven surfaces, and finishes that don’t last. Sanding is done along the wood grain. Varnish is applied in even coats with proper drying time between each layer. We check the finished surface before we leave.

Warranty Policy:

  • New parquet polishing jobs come with a 2-year workmanship warranty.
  • Existing floor recoats and repair jobs come with a 1-year workmanship warranty.

The warranty covers workmanship defects – such as peeling or flaking varnish – under normal use and conditions.

Why Choose ATP Painting

We’ve worked on a range of parquet types and floor conditions. We can tell quickly whether a floor needs a full sand, a recoat, or targeted repairs.

Preparation determines how long a varnish job lasts. We don’t skip steps. Every floor is sanded, cleaned, and dried properly before any finish is applied.

We use varnishes that are suited to the Singapore climate – formulated to handle local humidity levels, which affect how wood moves and how finishes perform.

We sand along the wood grain, manage dust carefully, apply varnish evenly, and check the result before handover.

We give clear quotes before work starts. If anything changes during the job, we let you know before proceeding.

How much does parquet polishing cost in Singapore?

Parquet polishing in Singapore is generally priced per square foot. The cost depends on the floor’s condition, the treatment needed, the finish chosen, and the total area. Floors needing repairs or heavy sanding will cost more than floors needing a light recoat. Contact us for a site assessment and a fixed quote.

A full parquet polishing service typically includes floor inspection, furniture clearance from the work area, sanding, gap filling, minor repairs, and varnish application in multiple coats. Larger repairs or block replacements are quoted separately.

Most residential floors take one to two days. Larger areas or floors with significant damage may take longer. The floor needs additional drying time after the final coat before it can be used normally.

Light foot traffic is usually safe after 24 hours with water-based varnish. For oil-based varnish, 48 hours is safer. Furniture should stay off the floor for at least three to five days to avoid denting the surface while it’s still curing.

Not always. If the floor’s existing varnish is still bonded well and the surface is sound, a recoat may be possible without a full sand. Heavily worn, scratched, or stained floors need sanding first to get a clean result.

Yes, in most cases. Surface scratches are removed through sanding. Only very deep scratches that go right through the wood may leave traces. Replacing blocks is rarely necessary for scratches alone.

Mild water damage – discolouration and minor swelling – can often be fixed with sanding and refinishing. Severely warped or cupped blocks may need replacement before the floor can be polished. A site inspection will confirm what’s possible.

Sanding produces fine wood dust. We use dust extraction equipment during sanding to reduce airborne dust significantly. Some dust is unavoidable, which is why we recommend keeping windows open and covering furniture not removed from the room.

Yes. The work area needs to be clear of furniture. We move furniture to an unaffected area as part of the job, but clearing personal items and fragile objects beforehand is recommended.
